Wills and Trusts

By naming the Foundation as a beneficiary in your will or trust, you can be confident that part of your estate will provide for the needs of SOLLC in perpetuity by becoming a part of the Shepherd of the Lake Foundation. This is a wonderful opportunity to turn a one-time donation into a permanent gift that will support the future ministry of SOLLC for years to come.

Revising your estate distributions does not have to be complicated. Contact the attorney who prepared your estate plan, or any estate planning attorney who can review your existing plan, and he or she can help you prepare an amendment that goes with the document you already have. The Trustees of the Foundation are happy to work with your estate planning attorney to provide any information needed. You should also contact your tax advisor regarding your specific tax situation.

Example bequest: 'I give, devise, and bequeath to the Shepherd of the Lake Foundation, a qualified 501(c)(3) not for profit organization located in Prior Lake, MN ____ % of my residual estate.'

MVEC Dividends

The Minnesota Valley Electric Co-op (MVEC) is a nonprofit business that assigns profits at the end of the year to a member’s capital credits account. At some point in the future, a portion of the credits are distributed to members. This physical distribution could occur years after the funds are deposited in the account. If you receive your electricity from MVEC, there is a special program that allows you to donate the money from your year-end capital credits account to the Foundation.

Memorial Bricks

Looking for a thoughtful way to celebrate someone’s birthday, wedding, or anniversary, or to honor the memory of a loved one? A memorial brick at Shepherd of the Lake is a meaningful, lasting way to express your love. When you purchase a brick, SOLLC sends an acknowledgement card to the individual or family whom you have chosen to honor, notifying them of your thoughtful gift. You will have the pleasure of knowing that your donation will not only support the future ministry of SOLLC, but also provide a lasting marker of a special occasion or memory. Bricks are $150 and are placed in the Memorial Courtyard near the front entrance to the church.
